A thought occurred to me tonight about the ferry that I wanted to share with you all and get your opinion on...
What if the ferry were to go into the site where the Binghamton stands now?
I believe this is a great idea for the following reasons:
1) The site is easily accessible
2) There is plenty of parking (and room for more if the old cinema could be utilized as a parking garage)
3) The current strip mall could be filled with stores that would attract commuters and increase revenue for the Borough
4) The Binghamton could be left as is and serve as the entrance to the loading dock for the new ferry, just as the other old ferry remains in Weehawken...and we know how beautifully Imperatore landscaped those grounds
5) The Binghamton can remain as the icon it is in local history...perhaps even, a bar could be placed upstairs for commuters and such
6) The local hotel could be utilized for business and tourist traffic because of it's easy accessibility to NYC
7) And if, when, the walking path along the Hudson comes to being, local residents could easily commute to the ferry, without having to pay for parking, etc...
8) None of the local residents could get upset, because this site will not obtund anything close to residential views (such as the currrent marina and Admiral's Walk)
9) The overall landscape of Edgewater would not have to change...We can keep the Binghamton, the parking situation is easily remedied...
Seems like a good plan to me...what do you all think?
