The reason so many of us are in favor of purchasing the Marina is because we are trying to protect and MAKE SURE that the Marina property stays as Open Space for all of us to enjoy. Don't you realize that the developer has a legitimate right to build whatever he chooses within the zoning regulations of that parcel. That means he can develop retail stores if he chooses and all the boro and its residences lose that last vestige of Open Space. The only way to protect it Forever is by the town's purchase of the site. No-one wants to raise their taxes, but if a minor tax increase will improve our quality of life, than it is a small price to pay. Second, many of us believe that the presentation was designed to make residents believe this is a tax issue, and to fund that property or its purchase, would mean that the whole burden fall on the taxpayer. This is false and misleading. Their are so many grants available to help fund that purchase that the professionals never explored, thus reducing much of the tax burden.
