Notice re. political candidates and postings

This is the second notice that we have posted which is related to the upcoming local election. We have been compelled to remove a second posting, which was apparently posted by a candidate for office. The posting was deemed by us to be political advertising and was therefore removed. While we encourage healthy debate and discussion of issues pertaining to Edgewater, we cannot allow our message boards to be appropriated by political candidates (or their campaign workers) and turned into a free forum for them to campaign.

If you will look at our home page, you will see that the local Democratic candidates are paying for advertising on Edgewater Online, and it would be manifestly unfair for us to allow other candidates to achieve the same result for free.

We will continue to remove any such postings, as well as postings which use profanity directed toward other political candidates, as we have previously had to deal with. On a more pragmatic note: prior to posting, please stop and think of how it looks to the people reading these boards when we have to unfortunately take this kind of action, and be guided accordingly. If your objective is to secure votes on Election Day, it might behoove everyone to play fair here and thereby avoid making a negative impression upon potential voters.
