great poem rat

in the 1970's we used to swim off

'White Dock'
it was at the back of the old Texaco
and the empty lot we called '7A'

truly brave kids used to swim across the river.

my mom swam across in the 1940's.
the old merse brothers had a little row boat,
they'd row beside the swimmers at high tide, right on over to harlem.
