When I lived there it was hardly a retreat for the rich and famous. There were a couple of homes on the beach behind the Community House but for the most part the houses were pretty much converted bungalows and the only access to the river was by walking through the woods. Shore Road where Geraldo lives ended right after it started.
Speaking for my family, there were times we took the NYC subway to 125th Street, walked cross town to the ferry and took the #8 bus to the camps when we landed in Edgewater. Vacationing the hard way.
