New preservation grant

Governor McGreevy signed legislature yesterday authorizing the Historic Preservation Fund to distribute $11.3 million to New Jersey municipalities, and ours is one of them. Edgewater’s share is $50,000 and it will be used to finance a study of the Municipal Building’s exterior structure. Council President Neda Rose, who sits on the Municipal Grants Committee, said she expects it to work with the Cultural & Historic Committee, the Bruno Group (which identified the grant and applied for it) and with professional groups and consultants to accomplish the purpose.
The Cultural & Historic Committee congratulates the Council on acquiring this grant, at a time when competition for government funding is high and budgets are low. On behalf of the committee, Chairman Douglas Hall said we all look forward to participating in the effort to preserve Edgewater’s almost 100 year old borough hall, which was completed in 1906.
