Car Appraisal

Recently tried to trade my car in but the dealer wasn't interested because of its age, mileage, and mechanical issues. They estimated wholesalers (think, Rt 46) would give me a third of what I thought I'd get based on the Blue Book.
I was considering donating it but one of my coworkers is interested in buying it. Only problem is I now have no idea what to ask.
Any suggestions on a place that can give honest appraisals? Thanks.
