Watchdogs

I am responsing to Jim because I feel it is an important issue when discussing conflicts of interest. A Watchdog group is one that watches all elected officials to make sure their are no conflicts of interest or any other impropriety. The watchdog group cannot be political in nature, for that in itself would make the Watchdog group have its own conflict of interest. As Huh says " Who would watch the watchdogs."
The members of the ICBE who wave this watchdog banner are being as disingenuous as it gets. They are not watchdogs. They are merely a group of very political minded folks with their own politaical agenda, who run and support political candidates, with like opinions. These candidates, i.e. Denis Gallagher, Valoray Bardinas Mary Hogan, et. al. have their own political views, and are running under this watchdog banner. They are simply opponents against the other side. The fact that they even claim to be watchdogs is hypocritical and biased.
Of course they point out alleged conflicts of the Democrats. They don't have a true platform. They do not come forward with an agenda. They take Potshots at the other side. Some stick, some are mostly rumor, inuendo. Most are just irresponsible and in bad taste. $100,00 in profits to Mr. Schwasrtz is an example of this. Photographing fundraisers that support the Democrats is another. I don't believe they will advertise that their own mayorial candidte Mary Hogan, has taken and solicited plenty of money from developers and professionals in the past for her previous campaign elections. She was even Treasurer of those succesful campaigns at the time, so she knew quite well where the money was comming from. It is public record. So it is not a watchdog group for they only report the alleged conflicts of one side.
In reality they are destroyers. I say this with respect, for I am sure there are some who truely believe they are good souls with sincere motives. They, with all due respect, are not. They are as power hungry as anyone else, and are driven purely with the goal of bashing the other side at all costs; destroying their credability, by using this "Watchdog" montra. The Democrats for better or worse, do not function in that capacity. Are they perfect? No. It is not a perfect world and they do make mistakes. However, they do not live to put the ICBE down. They have tried in my opinion to make this a more beautiful town, in spite, of the constant and pernicious attacks from the other side. I am sure there have been some conflicts along the way, but it is not the place of another political group to point it out, when tahat same group has its own conflicts. As Newt Gingrich, and Tom Delay, and others have found out. "Those who live in glass houses should not be casting stones."
Unfortunately, that is the real problem we have here. Just my opinion.
