As one of the original ferry riders, I love the ferry and would love one within walking distance as long as it is good for all the residents of Edgewater and doesn't create noise, pollution or more traffic.
I heard that there will be a test of the ferry tomorrow morning at the site of the marina. I sincerely hope this is only because the marina is a logical place to pull up a boat at the moment and not because this is a favored place of the mayor for the ferry. This space was voted to be preserved as open space. A ferry would turn open space into turn-around and commuter space.
There are other places in Edgewater that would be enhanced by a ferry terminal and the amenities that come with it.
Think about Lincoln Harbor. Even with the most minimal service and no amenities, the traffic for the ferry is brutal. It works there because that is a corporate center with some shopping and restaurants. People don't go there looking for a small slice of piece and quiet by the river.
Let's get as much good stuff for Edgewater as we can. Green open space one place; a lovely ferry landing another. Why not?
