PLEASE LIGHT A CANDLE
It’s been a long week for everyone. Whether you are for or against the war in Iraq, no one likes to think about the loss of life. If we stay, innocent civilians will die. If we leave, innocent civilians will die. This is a decision that I, for one, would not want to make.
However, like it or not, we are there right now. I can only imagine the heartbreak of the troops separated from their families, sleeping in a tent in the middle of a desert, only to turn on the satellite feed to see throngs of people in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, etc, telling them they should not be there. God Bless the families of the many Service Members that have and will give their lives for the freedom of this country. Given the choice, I am sure most of them would prefer to be home with their loved ones channel surfing Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN like the rest of us. To them, this war is not a special report interrupting regular broadcasting or a traffic jam caused by protestors. They did not make the decision to be there but they are sworn to uphold it. They are fighting for our right to sit around our offices and debate this war, our right to take to the street and demonstrate, and our right to just sit back and do nothing about it.
So our proposal is this. At 8 PM EST, March 26, 2003, could everyone who reads this email please light a candle and place it on your front doorstep, window or terrace to show support for the men and women sworn to fight for your freedom. You don’t have to agree with them being there, but they will give their lives for your right to disagree just the same. If we can all put our differences aside and come together to support our troops, maybe there is chance for peace on earth. Please let’s not forget them.
