New Edgewater Police Station

First, let me tell you where I am coming from. I am the daughter of a retired Edgewater police officer.
Secondly, as I said at the Council meeting on November 12th, I have seen at least two projects proposed by the Council, the expansion to Borough Hall and the first proposal for the traffic light at Orchard Street, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayers' money in architect fees, engineering fees, etc., and never be completed. If we are going to spend $500,000.00 in architectural drawings and engineering reviews for a new police station, then I want to see a building put up at the end of it. We have to be seriously COMMITTED to the entire project before we put up $500,000.00 for drawings, etc.
Thirdly, we have already committed $850,000.00 to the new Fire House and we are committing another $500,000.00. Now it is time to address our other emergency services - the Police and First Aid Squad. I cannot believe that the people of Edgewater would put up with, as Patriot says, "more traffic" for the sake of "homeland security" and not build a Police Station for its own Police and First Aid Squad. Is the evacuation of New York City more important to a resident of Edgewater then their own personal safety in their own hometown? I think not.
To have the victim of violent attack (assault, battery, rape) have to pass by their assailants to get out of the interrogation area, is not only a disgrace it is also illegal. But this is what we have right now in the Edgewater Police Station.
Is any price too much to pay for the health, safety and security of our residents? The answer is “NO”. Talk about being against motherhood!
